Even though flip phones are dead, some companies can’t ignore the fact that there is still a market where users prefer to use a flip phone. Take China, South Korea, or Japan for instance. Instead of having a smartphone, they’ll have a high-end flip phone that does the exact same thing as an iPhone or an Android device here in the States or Europe. Rumor has it that Samsung is still continuing with their W series that offer comparable specifications to Samsung’s flagship smartphones like the S or Note series.
Samsung has been creating high-end flips phones for a few years now, so this is nothing new to them. Each year the company usually comes out with a flip phone for users to purchase. Since we’re heading into 2020, it makes sense for Samsung to ready up on the W2020 flip phone.
The rumored specs put the W2020 on the same level as S or Note series handsets but shrunken down to a flip phone form factor. It is rumored to come with a 4.2-inch Full HD AMOLED display on the front and inside of the device, like previous models. It’ll run off of a Snapdragon 855 SoC and possibly 8GB of RAM. We could expect to see a triple camera set up this go-round because of the newer flagship devices. No word on what the battery size would come in at but it should be bigger than the 3,070mAh battery that the W2019 had. It will be running Android 9 and One UI.
For a flip phone, this is pretty powerful considering it’s on par with current Android devices, other than the screen size. Pricing and availability haven’t been announced yet, so we’ll see what Samsung comes up with on that regards.
Even though the W2020 would end up selling in South Korea and China, would it be something you’d be interested in having if you could get your hands on it? Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter, Facebook, or MeWe.
